Important Setup Notes:
- YOU MUST HANDLE THE GAUGE BLOCKS WITH CARE!
Setup and Procedure:
- N/A
Cautions, Warnings, or Safety Concerns:
- Read Care Instructions below
Discussion:
These blocks have an accuracy of five millions of an inch. Gauge blocks are used individually or stacked as accurate standards of thickness for manufacturing purposes.
Care Instructions:
- The accuracy of these blocks is of the order of five millionths of an inch and accordingly they are to be handled with great care. Be particularly careful NOT to drop them on any hard surface which would nick or injure the edges of these blocks.
- In using these blocks, they are first to be cleaned carefully by wiping with an absorbent piece of cotton and on the palm of the hand, and then "wrung" together after first breathing on them. If this is done carefully , a pile of blocks 6 to 8 inches high can be lifted by the top block alone. Thus giving a beautiful illustration of cohesion.
- With the aid of the attachments any dimension from a tenth of an inch to over a foot can be built up in steps of 1/10,000 of an inch.
- Do NOT leave the blocks in contact with each other longer than necessary. After use, wipe them off carefully and then SMEAR LIGHTLY WITH WHITE VASELINE (tube of vaseline is not enclosed).
