Gravity Coin Well, 1L20.10

Location:

  • L.R. Ingersoll Museum of Physics

Description: This large Hyperbolic Funnel measures 54 inches in diameter, as a coins are dropped down the ramp and spiral their way in to the center this loosely simulates a gravity well, such as a black hole.

Setup:

  1. Make sure there are enough pennies in the tray
  2. Make sure there isn't a clog of coins at the bottom of the funnel

Cautions, Warnings, or Safety Concerns:

  1. To may coins at one time will clog the funnel

Demonstration:
