Description:

The drop shot is an apparatus designed to simultaneously drop one steel ball and shoot another one forward with spring power. It can be mounted on a ring stand or a bench clamp.

Setup:

  1. Setup the ring stand or bench clamp on the table.
  2. Mount the apparatus in such a way that the projectile's plane of flight is perpendicular to the class.

Cautions, Warnings, or Safety Concerns:

  1. Pay attention to where the balls will land.

Demonstration:

Tell students to pay attention to the vertical motion of balls. The fact that one of them has a horizontal velocity does not affect its motion in the vertical direction. The balls hit the ground at the same time. Make the analogy about simultaneously firing a bullet out of a gun and dropping one from the end of the barrel.
