Atom Touch is a real-time molecular dynamics simulation that allows students to interact with the evolving system through touch screens, available for tablet, phone, and web platforms. Our recent working version is here if you want to get the idea, although please remember this is very much still under development: http://mli.doit.wisc.edu/atomtouch/v1.0/atomtouchWeb.html We are now looking for a student to help develop further the molecular simulation parts of Atom Touch. Work would consist of developments such as implementing new potentials, pair distribution function analysis, identifying phase transitions, etc.. The ideal student would have skills in molecular simulation, molecular dynamics, programming, and a strong interest in education. However, we would welcome anyone who is really enthusiastic and thinks they could be successful in this work. We presently have funds for a semester, perhaps a full year, and would be interested in exploring part- or full-time options. If you know of anyone who might be interested please encourage them to contact me (ddmorgan@wisc.edu) and please feel free to share this email with anyone who might be interested. "We thought an interesting idea would be to set up a network/marketplace of 3d printers in town and see if we could make a system were individuals who wanted to get relatively large orders of 3d printed parts could upload that order and get a quote for it, the order having been parsed out to numerous 3d printers in town. We made this system to solve the problem of a friend who owns a small business centered around a 3d printer: how do you fulfill a large order (100's-1000's) that is either relatively too small for the expense of injection molding or cannot be made by conventional manufacturing techniques because of the materials geometry. We decided that leveraging the latent capacity of unused 3d printers in the area might be a way. We did a test run of the system by activating several printers on our 'network' to print out a large order of custom bracelets ("UW Hackathon!" on each), this included the one in the physics garage." {{attachment:Hackathon2014.jpg|Hackathon2014|width="800"}} ---- Tyler Graf presents poster at UW Madison Sustainability Forum 2014 http://sustainability.wisc.edu/sustainability-forum-2014-overview/ {{attachment:SustainabilityForum2014.jpg|SustainabilityForum2014|width="800"}} ---- Garage participates in 2014 Madison Startup Fair.
