Burner

Cold water

Weight hanger

Several kilograms masses

2 1/2" rod with Clamp and connector

Setup:

  1. Install the burner gas tube with the gas source.
  2. Make sure that you have the gas switch off and in the right pressure that you want before you turn it on.
  3. Clamp the 1/2' rod with the table and the another one to make a hanger bar.
  4. Make sure that you clamp copper loop in magnet body and suspend magnet.

Cautions, Warnings, or Safety Concerns:

  1. Beware of heat flame.
  2. Demonstration may require practice.

Demonstration:

Clamp copper loop in magnet body and suspend magnet. Show the students that there is no magnetic power from the thermoelectric magnet by apply armature concentric with magnet body and it cannot attach to the magnet, then heat one junction with burner and cool the other with cold water. Apply armature concentric with magnet body again. Attach hanger and add weights as heating progresses. To function properly, magnet and armature must make perfect contact.
