1. Set up the bridge, the hose and the lead bricks in such a way that the cart does not roll off the table. Make sure the open side of the bridge is the right distance from the edge of the table so that the trigger string can be released right before the ball goes under the bridge. 2. Clamp the string to the lab bench. 3. Load the ball into the launcher by pressing it down and placing the spring in the whole. 4. Roll the cart under the bridge. It should be going relatively fast. |

Use the Tall cart for a better show. Push ball down in the cart and insert the retaining pin in the bottom whole of the tall ballistic cart. The retaining pin is attached to a string with is tide to a C-clamp and clamped to the bench. The bridge is placed about one string length in front of the cart when the retaining pin string is taunt. Lineup the cart with the bridge so that when you give the cart a good push the retaining pin is pulled out by the string which is C-clamped to the bench. Thus releasing the ball that was in the cart. The cart should roll under the bridge and the ball should go over the bridge. The ball should land back inside the cart on the other side of the bridge. Use either an air hoses or a board and eraser as bumpers to prevent cart from falling of the bench. PROCEDURE: SETUP: Take the C-clamp with the release pin tied to it and clamp it to the side of the bench. Load the cannon by placing the steel ball in the cannon and push the ball down as far as you can. Then insert the release pin in to the small whole in the side of the cannon. The taller cart has two wholes, use the lower one. Roll the loaded cart out as far as the string will let you without releasing the pin. This gives you a distance guide, lets call it "L", to put the bridge. Place the bridge at a distance of 3/2L from the C-clamp, But no farther then 2L. Make sure the cart can go under the bridge without hitting the top of the bridge. Also make sure there is something to stop the cart on the other side of the bridge so that the cart does not fly off the bench. Use something like an air hose or 2 bar erasers and lead bricks. 1. Description:
The CENCO ballistic cart is equipped with a spring loaded vertical ball launcher. The ball is launched vertically into the air when a pin is pulled out by a string that is attached to a clamp on the table. The cart and ball move at constant velocity. The cart catches the ball some time later after the cart has gone underneath a bridge and the ball when over the bridge.

Important Setup Notes:
This demonstration requires practice
- Setup time is about 5 minutes
- If the vertical alignment of barrow is off, the ball will not go back into the cup. Check the level of the table and if necessary there are 2 adjustment screws on the bottom of the cart that will help you to realign the barrow.
Setup and Procedure:
- Make sure that the lecture bench is level.
- Clamp the C-clamp with string and trigger pin to one end of the lecture bench.
- Set up the bridge. Make sure that the bridge is the right distance the cart with the trigger string fully extended. This distance is about 1 foot.
- The hose is set out some distance from the bridge such that it stops the cart from roll off the table. The lead bricks are used to hold the hose.
- Load the ball into the launcher by pressing it down all the way and placing the trigger pin in the second whole.
Cautions, Warnings, or Safety Concerns:
- The lead blocks weigh about 32lbs. Take care not to drop them or strain yourself.
- Don't let the cart fall off of the lecture bench; The alignment will get messed up.
Demonstration:
Give the cart a good push. It takes practice to get the right speed so that the ball is in the air when the cart is under the bridge. After you push it, the cart rolls at constant velocity.
